Etaons independent ranking of the top ten football teams in the NCAA.
1. Hawaii is the only undefeated team in the nation and beat two teams ranked at the game time (Fresno State and Boise State), as well as a Pac-10 team (Washington, a team that also counts as one of Ohio States victories), and defeated every team in its own conference.
2. LSU won the tough SEC and had one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The only two losses were in triple overtime to teams that have been ranked this year (Kentucky and Arkansas). It beat Virginia Tech (currently ranked number three), South Carolina (ranked number 12 at game time), Florida (ranked number 9 at game time and #12 now), Kentucky (ranked number 17 at game time), Auburn (ranked number 17 at game time and #23 now), Alabama (ranked number 17 at game time), and Tennessee (ranked number 14 at game time and #16 now).
3. Oklahoma won against tough competition and may be the real second best team in the nation at this time.
4. USC won the Pac-10 and may be the best team in the nation right now. We saw how Oregon went from possibly the best team in the nation to a poor team by losing their top quarterback. USCs two losses came while its top qurterback was hurt and they were still a very good team anyway.
5. Ohio State had an easy schedule, playing only four decent teams (Michigan, Illinois, Penn State, and Wisconsin), one of which lost to Appalacian State, another which defeated Ohio State, and another which is no longer ranked. Its conference was weaker than the the WAC, Big East, or ACC. Ohio State may not even deserve this high a ranking.
6. Georgia is a good team from the toughest conference int he nation, but didnt even win its division. If it had played in the SEC championshi game and lost to LSU, would anyone want to rank it in the top 10?
7. Virginia Tech won a championship in a weak conference.
8. Florida is one of the most exciting and explosive teams around. On any given day it might be able to beat any team in the nation, but also might lose to at least 20 teams. Great quarterback (almost as good as Colt Brennan).
9.Missouri played well in a tough conference against a tough schedule. Its only losses were twice to Oklahoma (which should count as only one total loss).
10. Kansas is still a suspect team. Although it only has one loss, it was also the only team still ranked that it played (Kansas State turned out to be a fraud).
